At Thirsk Rugby Club we believe that taking part in sport should be a positive and enjoyable part of children’s lives. We want to make sure that children are protected and kept safe from physical, sexual and emotional harm while they are with the coaches, helpers and other volunteers.
To do this, we have these aims:
1. Coaches should hold current RFU coaching awards, or be working towards, will have an Enhanced Criminal Record Disclosure and will be clearly identifiable by current season’s name tags.
2. Coaching positions will be open to both sexes.
3. The Club will encourage and financially support coaches to continuously update their Rugby Football coaching skills and knowledge and child protection issues.
4. All coaches will be given a copy of the Club’s Code of Conduct for coaches and be expected to adhere to it at all times.
5. The Club will keep records of playing member’s attendance, parental consent and accidents.
6. The Club will provide a written Health and Safety policy covering fire procedures, telephone access, first aid and emergency procedures.
7. The Club will provide coaches and parents with a written procedure for dealing with accusations or suspicions of child abuse.
8. As a Club, we will promote ‘fair play’ and always play within the spirit of the laws and the letter of the Rugby Union Continuum.
9. Each coach is to be made aware of the Club’s attitude to the protection of children from abuse and will have a copy of the Club’s policy.
10. We will identify a Child Protection Lead, whose role it is to deal with any concerns about abuse within the Club.
