Thirsk vs. Wensleydale 8th march 2009
Game 1 lost 15-20
Game 2 won 15-10
Thirsk played wensleydale at home in 2 games and lost the first 15-20, but won the second 15-10 on a windy and bitterly cold morning.Although Thirsk lost the 1st game there was no lack of commitment in the way they played,as always Thirsk were a little slow out of the blocks and took the 1st half of the 1st game to get into game mode but after that they applied huge amounts of what they have been doing in training into match situation,They competed hard in the tight and passed the ball well to find space out wide which was a real pleasure to see and watch the 30 or so spectators watching had lots to cheer about and made for a real good match atmosphere.
Wensleydale played their part as they played with real gusto and good spirit as always, making it an even contest.always a threat for the whole of the 2 games
Thirsk used the ball well mixing play from strong straight running to fast passing to test the visitors defence, Josh(2 tries) and Jordan McKee (2 tries),Mathew Brown,Sam Acheson and Joseph Scratchard(2 tries) always a threat with ball in hand,But with the whole team getting involved opportunities were coming from all areas of the pitch when Thirsk had the ball. But it was the work by Thirsk without the ball that was most impressive especially tackling which was immense by the whole team several times putting in try saving tackles close to their own try line.Wensleydale constantly tested Thirsk and passed the ball out of contact with great confidence making Thirsk work hard across the pitch in defence but with strong tackling from all the team and Oliver Sargent(1 try) who seemed to be everywhere, working hard to contest for the ball a job usually shared to great effect by his absence team mate Sam Charlton the home side enjoyed good turnover of possession. But the player who stood out most and deservedly winner of the man of the match added to a great performance was Josh Mckee a player unrecognisable from the beginning of the season now a key player in a much improving team, great all round performance guys lets get to training next week in big numbers and work hard towards playing well in our next match
