The junior section of Thirsk Rugby Football Club has grown significantly over the last few years and is focused on increasing the numbers of children participating in rugby in the Hambleton area.
During the 2008/9 season section achieved the following
- Increased membership to over 100 players - running U7, U8, U9, U10, U12 and U14 teams
- Increased the number of coaches to 12 and increased the number of team managers
- Played a structured fixtures list - playing regular home and away fixtures against clubs from across North Yorkshire and Cleveland
- Introduced Tuesday night training for the older teams
- Increased the number of key parent volunteers
The section delivers a Community Rugby Programme
In partnership with the RFU
- Working closely with 4 nearest senior schools and tens of linked primary schools
- Providing 2+ days / week of qualified coaching resource
- Delivering coaching and festivals for hundreds of school children aged between 6 and 14
The section is financially sound and is sponsored by TeleWare plc
Catering and a kit shop are provided on training and match days
The section also
- Runs an end of season presentation night
- Runs a Summer Rugby Camp
- Runs tours for the older teams
- Has strong links with the senior section, Leeds Carnegie and Hambleton District Council
- Is working towards and expects to achieve RFU Seal of Approval accreditation this Autumn 2009
- Plans to continue to grow and improve
